La Tomatina

La Tomatina is one of the most extravagant and unique festivals. It is celebrated in Buñol, a small town in the province of Valencia. Every year, on the last Wednesday of August, thousands of people from all over the world gather in the narrow streets of Buñol to participate in the largest tomato battle in the world.

The origin of La Tomatina dates back to 1945, when a group of young people started a spontaneous fight of tomatoes in the middle of a festive procession. Since then, the tradition has continued and grown in popularity over the years. The party begins with a high soapy pole, on which a ham is hung from the top. The participants try to climb the pole and remove the ham, while the crowd cheers and enjoys the spectacle.

At 11 in the morning , the starting shot sounds and several trucks begin to throw tons of ripe and crushed tomatoes onto the streets. The result is a chaos of red and tomato juice as people dive into battle throwing tomatoes at each other. The event lasts about an hour and the battle ends when the second shot sounds.

In addition to the exciting tomato fight, La Tomatina offers additional activities such as parades, live music and local competitions. During this festivity, visitors also have the opportunity to taste delicious Valencian cuisine and experience the warmth of Spanish hospitality.

Bilbao Big Week

La Semana Grande de Bilbao, also known as "Aste Nagusia", is one of the most important celebrations in the city of Bilbao, which takes place during the third week of August. This annual festival attracts thousands of national and international visitors, who come to enjoy a week full of entertainment, culture and fun.

La Semana Grande de Bilbao It begins with the launch of the txupinazo, a rocket that officially marks the start of the festival. During the following days, the city is filled with activities for all ages and tastes. Events include open-air concerts with local and international artists, sports competitions, traditional Basque dances and spectacular fireworks displays that illuminate the night sky.

One of the most outstanding elements of Bilbao's Semana Grande is the parade of giants and big heads. Large wooden figures represent historical and mythological characters, carried by people who dance to the rhythm of traditional music while entertaining the crowd. This parade is especially popular among the little ones, who enjoy seeing these colorful characters.

In addition to public activities, the streets of Bilbao are filled with terraces, bars and restaurants that offer a wide selection of pintxos (tapas), typical dishes and local drinks. Basque gastronomy is especially prominent during Semana Grande, and visitors can try a wide variety of regional dishes while enjoying a lively and festive atmosphere.

Málaga Fair

From August 12 to 19, 2023 the Málaga Fair will be held, one of the most important in the country. It attracts more than 1 million visitors and is inaugurated after the traditional proclamation, on August 11. Thus, at midnight, fireworks from Malagueta beach mark the beginning of a week of celebration and revelry.

Gracia Festivals in Barcelona

The essence of the Gracia Festival lies in creativity and community. Every year, the residents of the neighborhood get together to design and decorate the streets with different themes. The ornaments and decorations are completely handmade, which gives the streets a special and unique charm.
