¿Cuándo y por qué se celebra el Día Escolar de la No Violencia y la Paz?

The School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is celebrated every January 30 in education centers from all over the world. This day is dedicated to commemorating a culture of non-violence and peace, and to promoting education in and for tolerance, solidarity, harmony, respect for Human Rights, non-violence and peace.

< p style="font-weight: 400;">It is celebrated on the anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi, a pacifist leader who defended and promoted non-violence and peaceful resistance against injustice and who He was murdered for defending these ideas. Therefore, on this day, educational centers are committed as defenders of peace and understanding between people of different origins and ways of thinking.

The main objective of the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is to raise awareness in the educational community about the importance of cultivating values as tolerance, solidarity, respect and cooperation. This day has become a tool to promote a culture of peace in educational institutions, encouraging reflection and dialogue among students, teachers and administrative staff.

The celebration seeks to raise awareness among new generations about the need to build societies based on mutual respect and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Thus, during this day, educational institutions carry out various activities ranging from talks and workshops to artistic, sports, educational and cultural performances; always with a view to promoting harmonious coexistence, thus contributing to the comprehensive training of students.

White Dove Symbol of World Peace

Also , the use of the international symbol of peace, the white dove, is promoted as a visual reminder of the need to build a more just and peaceful world. Throughout its celebration, educational centers become spaces where empathy is encouraged, conflicts are resolved through dialogue and diversity is promoted as a source of enrichment.

Unlike the International Day of Peace, which is celebrated every September 21, the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace focuses on the education and training of young people in values of peace and non-violence. The International Day of Peace, on the other hand, focuses on promoting peace and non-violence around the world.

It is important to highlight that education in and for tolerance, solidarity, harmony, respect for Human Rights, non-violence and peace are fundamental to building a more just and equitable world. An education inspired by a culture of non-violence and peace allows students to acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills that reinforce their development as critical global citizens committed to their rights and those of other people.

For all these reasons, the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is an opportunity for the entire educational community to reflect on the importance of education in values and promoting peaceful coexistence in our society.
