Constitution Day in Spain, December 6, is declared a national holiday and, therefore, is not a working day. It commemorates December 6, 1978, the date on which Spaniards voted in a referendum in favor of the Spanish Constitution currently in force.
It was decided to celebrate Constitution Day in November 1983, through the Royal Decree 2964/1983: "In order to properly solemnize the anniversary of the date on which the Spanish people ratified the Constitution in a referendum, the Government has considered it appropriate to adopt the measures conducive to this end".
