In which autonomous communities will Carnival be a public holiday?

Like many national holidays, Carnivals are celebrated in much of Spain. However, many of the autonomous communities do not consider this festival as an official holiday.

Carnivals have been documented in Spain since the Middle Ages and are more recognized in some areas of the country than in others. The most famous are found in Cádiz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which attract thousands of Spaniards and foreigners.

Each year, these festivals are celebrated on different dates, since they must be seven weeks after the first Moon full after the winter solstice. Therefore, this year, the Carnivals will take place between Thursday, February 16 and Wednesday, February 22.

In this case, the only autonomous community that includes this holiday in its work calendar is Extremadura, having February 21 as a holiday. Some towns, municipalities and towns also carry it out, such as the aforementioned Cádiz, on February 20, and Tenerife on February 21.

As in these locations, it will also be a holiday in some specific areas of Spain, so you must consult the specific calendar for each of them.
