December 3: Holiday in the Region of Murcia

This coming December 3, the Catholic Church pays tribute to one of its most famous saints and an important holiday in the Region of Murcia.

Saint Francis Xavier was a Jesuit missionary born in Navarra at the beginning of the century XVI, who was one of the founders of the congregation of the Society of Jesus as well as a close collaborator of Ignatius of Loyola.

He was also recognized as Apostle of the Indies because of his continuous collaborations and missions in Asia where, precisely, he died in the year 1552 in the Shangchuan region, in China. For his works, Francis Xavier was canonized by order of Pope Gregory XV a few years after his death, along with Saint Teresa of Jesus, Saint Isidro Labrador and Saint Ignatius of Loyola.
