Which days will be public holidays in 2024?

With the beginning of a new year, we have a new work calendar in Spain. On this occasion, 2024 will include a total of 14 non-recoverable holidays, paid and mandatory. Of them, we differentiate 12 as national and regional festivities, while the other two are of a local nature, by the town councils.

Of the 12 national and regional festivities, 8 are mandatory and irreplaceable at community level. These include January 1 (New Year), March 29 (Good Friday), May 1 (Labor Day), August 15 (Assumption of the Virgin), October 12 (National Holiday), on November 1 (All Saints' Day), December 6 (Constitution Day) and December 25 (Christmas Day). If any of these days fall on a Sunday, regions can choose to move it to Monday, although this will not happen in 2024.

In addition to these eight days holidays, there are four others whose choice falls to those responsible for each community, who can select between January 6 (Three Kings' Day), March 28 (Holy Thursday) and December 8 ( Immaculate Conception). Therefore, communities will have the flexibility to enjoy them or replace one with another day of local relevance.

In 2024, there will be four “bridges” throughout Spain. These weekends will be generated when holidays coincide with Monday or Friday. They will be on January 1 (New Year); March 29 (Good Friday); November 1 (All Saints); and December 6 (Constitution Day).

It should be noted that most communities will have Holy Thursday, March 28, and Friday as holidays. Holy on March 29, except Catalonia, which dispenses with Holy Thursday and, in exchange, has a holiday on April 1 (Easter Monday). This last day will also be a holiday in the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Navarra and the Basque Country, which will generate a long five-day bridge, from Holy Thursday to Easter Monday, inclusive.

Additionally, in 2024, three regions have decided to have an additional holiday, classifying it as "recoverable paid". Catalonia can choose between January 6, April 1, June 24 or December 26 for its recoverable day; The Valencian Community has selected June 24 as a recoverable holiday; and Ceuta has designated October 2, community day. These three regions will enjoy 13 holidays, but they will have to negotiate with the companies to recover one of them as agreed.

Taking into account all of the above, the holidays in each Autonomous Community would be:
